Sports of India

Alongside history, culture and arts India has thrived in the fields of different sports. Cricket, hockey, tennis, shooting, archery and a host of other contemporary sports are played in the country. Besides the contemporary ones the traditional sports are also given due heed. Interestingly sports also form an integral part of entertainment and even religion, for instance, boat racing, jallikattu, kushti and others.

Athletics
In the area of sports, India had evolved a number of games. Athletics is one of indian sports event among them. Athletics, also known as track and field or track and field athletics, is a collection of sports events that involve running, throwing and jumping. Indian athletics has always had some specialist events in which the country has managed to build itself a reputation. The whole list of events in athletics now include track and field events, road running races, cross country races, and a few other events. Record after record is created, and the events becoming more and more exciting. A handful of Indians have managed to perform commendably in a few events at the international arena.
Hockey
Hockey is the national sport of India. Hockey sports has made India stand tall and prove itself to the world, in spite of being under political suppression then. After Independence, Indian Hockey Lions roared with new found vigour and created havoc among the ranks of the opposing team. Hockey sports is a team game where two teams of eleven members each are pitted against each other, the objective is pretty much the same as foot ball.India has a wonderful track record in Olympics. Not only winning six consecutive gold medals, but the way in which the opponent was routed is etched in history.
